The Seal Judgments are the first series of seven judgments described in the book of Revelation. 2. The Second Seal – The Red Horse (Revelation 6:3-4) A rider is permitted to take peace from the earth so that people should slay one another; he is given a great sword. This points to widespread war and bloodshed.
3. The Third Seal – The Black Horse (Revelation 6:5-6) A rider holds a pair of scales. A voice announces extreme scarcity and inflated prices for basic food, while luxury items are unaffected — a picture of famine and economic hardship.
4. The Fourth Seal – The Pale Horse (Revelation 6:7-8) A rider named Death is followed by Hades. Authority is given over a fourth of the earth to kill with sword, famine, pestilence, and wild beasts.
5. The Fifth Seal – The Cry of the Martyrs (Revelation 6:9-11) Under the altar are the souls of those slain for the word of God and their testimony. They cry out for justice and are told to rest a little longer until the full number of their fellow servants is complete.
6. The Sixth Seal – Cosmic Disturbance (Revelation 6:12-17) A great earthquake occurs; the sun becomes black, the moon like blood, stars fall, the sky vanishes, and every mountain and island is removed from its place. The inhabitants of the earth hide in terror from the wrath of the Lamb.
7. The Seventh Seal – Silence in Heaven (Revelation 8:1-5) When the Lamb opens the seventh seal, there is silence in heaven for about half an hour. Seven angels with seven trumpets are given their instruments, and the next series of judgments begins.
The Seal Judgments reveal that history is not spiraling out of control; it is unfolding under the authority of the Lamb who was slain. Each seal opened is a deliberate act of divine justice and a step toward the final triumph of God. The judgments are severe, yet they are measured, and they leave room for repentance even as they display the wrath of the Lamb. For the people of God, the seals are a reminder that suffering and martyrdom are not forgotten and that the cry for justice will be answered. For the world, they are a solemn warning that the day of the Lord is approaching. The same Lamb who opens the seals is the Savior who still offers mercy before the final judgments fall.
