The Prince of Peace is one of the exalted titles given to the coming Messiah in Isaiah 9:6.
It declares that Jesus Christ is the royal ruler whose reign brings true and lasting peace — peace with God, peace within the heart, and ultimately peace over all the earth.
Unlike the temporary and fragile peace of this world, the peace He gives is purchased by His blood and secured by His finished work.
He is the One who makes peace by the blood of His cross and who will one day fill the whole earth with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
Isaiah prophesied that a child would be born, a son given, and the government would rest upon His shoulder. His name would be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and of peace there would be no end. This peace is not merely the absence of conflict; it is the positive, reconciling, restoring work of the Messiah. At His first coming Jesus made peace through the blood of His cross, reconciling sinners to God and breaking down the dividing wall between Jew and Gentile. He left His peace with His disciples — a peace the world cannot give. In the present age those who trust Him enjoy peace with God and the peace of God that guards the heart and mind. When He returns, His reign will bring universal peace; nation will not lift up sword against nation, and the wolf will dwell with the lamb. The Prince of Peace has already secured the decisive victory; the full manifestation of His peace is still to come.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace. The government rests upon His shoulder, and of the increase of His peace there will be no end. He made peace by the blood of His cross. He gives a peace the world cannot give. He will one day fill the whole earth with peace and righteousness. Between the already and the not yet, His people live in the peace of God that guards the heart and mind. Come to the Prince of Peace. Be justified by faith and have peace with God. Let His peace rule in your heart. In a world of trouble, take heart — He has overcome the world, and His peace is yours.
