Being saved is a GIFT
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this is not from
yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast."
Ephesians 2:8-9
It is neither earned nor deserved. But, it is given to us because of God's great love.
"This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as an
atoning sacrifice for our sins."
I John 4:10
Our being saved is triple binding.
You have been redeemed (bought) out of slavery.
"You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."
I Corinthians 6:20
Your obligations are now toward Christ and not toward men.
"You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men."
I Corinthians 7:23
You have been redeemed from having to meet the standard of the Ten Commandments.
"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it
is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."
Galatians 3:13
The redemptive price paid for you being saved was the blood of Jesus on the
cross.
"For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that
you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but
with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect."
I Peter 1:18-19
You have been born again.
"In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no
one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
John 3:3
This is a spiritual birth.
"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked.
"Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be
born!" Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one
can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth
to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. you should not be surprised at my saying,
"You must be born again." The wind blows wherever it pleases.
You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is
with everyone born of the Spirit.
John 3:4-8
This birth produces an innate nature to love all who are born of God.
"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who
loves has been born of God and knows God."
I John 4:7
"Everyone who believes that jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who
loves the father loves His child as well."
I John 5:1
At your new birth, God made you His dwelling place.
"To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of
this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory."
Colossians 1:27
- His Holy Spirit dwells within you.
"You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the
Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not
belong to Christ."
Romans 8:9
- This birth causes you to become a child of God.
"The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if
we are children, then we are heirs -- heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we
share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory."
Romans 8:16-17
You have been adopted.
"For you did not receive a spirit that makes a slave again to fear, but you
received the Spirit of sonship. Any by him we cry, "Abba, Father."
Romans 8:15
He took you beyond a slave to an adopted son.
to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons."
Galatians 4:5-7
