Being saved is a PROCESS
You have been saved from the penalty of sin. JUSTIFIED:
"and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ
Jesus. God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood. He did
this to demonstrate His justice, because in His forbearance He had lift the sins committed
beforehand unpunished - He did it to demonstrate His justice at the present time, so as to
be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus."
Romans 3:24-26
Being justified by faith equals righteousness.
"However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked,
his faith is credited as righteousness. David says the same thing when he speaks of the
blessedness of the man to who God credits righteousness apart from works: Blessed are they
whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin
the Lord will never count against him."
Romans 4:5-8
"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ."
Romans 5:1
You are qualified for the inheritance of heaven.
"giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of
the saints in the kingdom of light. For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the
forgiveness of sins."
Colossians 1:12-14
You have been forgiven.
"Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your
evil behavior. But now He has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to
present you as holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation -"
Colossians 1:21-22
"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ
God forgave you."
Ephesians 4:32
"I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of
His name."
I John 2:12
Your name has been registered in the Book of Life.
"Yes, and I ask you, loyal yokefellow, help these women who have contended at my
side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers,
whose names are in the book of life."
Philippians 4:3
"to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come
to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect."
Hebrews 12:23
"If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into
the lake of fire."
Revelation 20:15
You are being saved from the power of sin. (sanctified)
"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave
Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our
God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."
Galatians 1:3-5
The penalty of sin is gone (forgiven). However, the power of, and the will to
sin is still present.
"I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for
they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take
them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the
world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is the truth. As you
sent me into the world I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that
they too may be truly sanctified. My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those
who will believe in me through their message."
John 17:14-20
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us
throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run
with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and
perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its
shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Hebrews 12:1-2
"Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil
desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but
rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and
offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be
your master, because you are not under law, but under grace."
Romans 6:12-14
"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate
I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is
not longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives
in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I
cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not
want to do -- this I keep on doing. Now is I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer
I who do it, but is sin living in me that does it."
Romans 7:15-20
 | Present sin is cleansed away by Jesus.
"My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody
does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense -- Jesus Christ, the
Righteous One. he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also
for the sins of the whole world."
I John 2:1-2
|
 | It is cleansed by confession.
"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us
from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and
his word has no place in our lives."
I John 1:8-10
|
 | This confession protects you from punishment from God for your sins.
"But if we judge ourselves, we would come under judgment. When we are judged by
the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world."
I Corinthians 11:31-32

To sanctify is for God to set you apart for divine use.
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up
for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to
present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish,
but holy and blameless."
Ephesians 5:25-27
"If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble
purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work."
II Timothy 2:21
The goal of every Christian is to put to death the deeds of the flesh.
"Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation -- but it is not to the sinful nature,
to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but
if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,"
Romans 8:12-13
"The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and
debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish
ambition, dissensions, factions"
Galatians 5:19-20
This is accomplished one sin at a time.
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us
throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run
with perseverance the race marked out for us."
Hebrews 12:1
This is an expected response.
"that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and
honorable,"
I Thessalonians 4:4
"If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right
has been born of Him."
I John 2:29
You need to live your life under the control of Jesus.
"so then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in
Him,"
Colossians 2:6
 | Your faith in God empowers you to overcome sin.
"for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has
overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who
believes that Jesus is the Son of God."
I John 5:4-5

You are going to be saved from the presence of sin; glorified in heaven.
"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth
had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the holy City, the new jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her
husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is
with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be
with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more
death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." He
who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said,
"Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." He said to me:
"It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is
thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who
overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But the
cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who
practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars -- their place will be in the fiery lake
of burning sulfur. This is the second death."
Revelation 21:1-8
At death you will be free from sin.
"What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no
means! We died to sin, how can we live in it any longer? Or don't you know that all of us
who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried
with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead
through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with
him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.
For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done
away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin -- because anyone who has died has
been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with
him."
Romans 6:1-8
For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he
entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God's presence. Nor did he enter heaven to
offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every
year with blood that is not his own. Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since
the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to
do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. Just as man is destined to die once. and
after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many
people, and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those
who are waiting for him."
Hebrews 9:24-28
At death you will go directly to heaven.
"Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the
body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say,
and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord."
II Corinthians 5:6-8
At the resurrection of the dead, you will receive a new body.
"Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to
grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again
and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left
till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For
the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the
archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After
that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the
clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore
encourage each other with these words."
I Thessalonians 4:13-18
Heaven is a saved person's inheritance, your inheritance.
"Praise to be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy
he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of jesus Christ from
the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade -- kept in heaven
for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation
that is ready to be revealed in the last time."
I Peter 1:3-5
