The Lordship of Christ means Jesus is Savior and Master.
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved.
Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?
Lord is not a courtesy title. Paul says no one can say Jesus is Lord except in the Holy Spirit, and that confessing Jesus as Lord is how the mouth joins the heart that believes God raised Him. Jesus asks why someone calls Him Lord and does not do what He says. The church does not receive a Savior and postpone the Master. God has made Him both Lord and Christ. Every knee will bow at His name.
- The confession is of the risen Christ. Lordship is not a later upgrade added to a smaller faith.
- Doing what He says is the fruit of calling Him Lord. It is not a second way to earn the name.
- God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name above every name. The lordship is the Father’s gift to the Son, confessed by the church.
Jesus is Lord. The mouth confesses it. The life does not keep a separate throne. Why call Him Lord and not do what He says?
