Casting cares on the Lord is handing Him the weight,
because He cares for you.
Humble yourselves, therefore,
under the mighty hand of God.
Casting all your anxieties on him,
because he cares for you.
Cast your burden on the Lord,
and he will sustain you.
Peter does not set casting cares beside humility. He sets it inside it. Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you. The throw is the humbling. A clutched care is a hand still on the throne. Jesus had already said not to be anxious about life, food, and clothing. The Father knows. Seek first the kingdom. The church is told to cast the whole load, not the part it cannot manage.
- All your anxieties. The word is not the respectable worries. It is the whole set.
- The reason is His care, not your skill at releasing feelings. He cares for you. That is why the cast is sane.
- The next line is sober. Be watchful. The devil prowls. Casting cares is not carelessness. The hand is emptied onto God so it can watch.
Cast the burden. He will sustain you. He will never permit the righteous to be moved. The sustain is His. The cast is yours.
Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God.
Cast all your anxieties on him,
because he cares for you.
He will sustain you.
- Casting cares is an act of humility under God’s hand.
- All the anxieties go. Not the leftover ones.
- The ground is His care, not a calm personality.
- Psalm 55 already said to cast the burden on the Lord.
- Jesus forbids anxiety about the day’s provision and points to the Father who knows.
- Watchfulness follows. An emptied hand is a watching hand.
- The Humbling – Under the mighty hand of God.
- The Cast – All your anxieties.
- The Reason – Because He cares for you.
- The Burden – Cast it, and He will sustain you.
- The Day – Do not be anxious about tomorrow.
- The Watch – Sober and watchful after the cast.
- 1 Peter 5:6-7 – “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

- Psalm 55:22 – “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”
- Matthew 6:31-33 – “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ … Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
- Philippians 4:6-7 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
