The family of God is the household of the Father,
born of Him and named His children.
See what kind of love the Father has given to us,
that we should be called children of God;
and so we are.
You are no longer a slave, but a son,
and if a son, then an heir through God.
The family of God is not a metaphor for friendly people. The Father gives the love that calls us children, and so we are. Jesus is the Son. Those who receive Him are given the right to become children of God, born of God. Adoption is the family right. The brotherhood and sisterhood in Christ is the family looking sideways. One Father. One household. Many children.
- The household of God is the same family named as a house. Paul says you are fellow citizens and members of the household of God.
- Natural family can conflict with loyalty to Christ. Jesus says whoever does the will of His Father is His brother and sister and mother.
- The church learns the Father by how the children love one another.
Called children, and so we are. The family is His gift, not our arrangement.
That we should be called children of God; and so we are.
No longer a slave, but a son.
Members of the household of God.
- The family name is given by the Father’s love.
- So we are. The call is true.
- Adoption makes sons and heirs, not distant servants.
- Brother and sister are the family looking across.
- Jesus counts as family those who do the Father’s will.
- Love for one another is how the world reads this family.
- The Father – One Father, in heaven.
- The Children – Called, and so we are.
- The Son – Jesus, not ashamed to call them brothers.
- The Right – Adoption, heir through God.
- The House – The household of God.
- The Mark – Love for one another.
- 1 John 3:1 – “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.”
- Galatians 4:7 – “So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”
- Ephesians 2:19 – “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”
- Matthew 12:50 – “For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.
You are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.
You are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.
The family is His. Called children, and so we are. Brothers and sisters follow from that Father.
