The Feast of Weeks is the feast of harvest, fifty days after the sheaf.
You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath.
Israel counts seven weeks from the day the sheaf of firstfruits is brought, and on the fiftieth day holds a holy convocation. Two loaves of new grain, baked with leaven, are waved. It is the feast of harvest, also called Shavuot, and in the Greek Scriptures Pentecost. The Spirit is poured out on that day in Acts, when the church is in Jerusalem. The Pentecost page takes up that morning. This page is the feast in the law: a counted harvest, a holy assembly, and the poor and the sojourner remembered.
- The count starts at the sheaf, not at a guess.
- The two loaves are a wave offering of the new grain.
- Deuteronomy ties the feast to freewill offerings and to joy before the Lord.
