False apostles are men who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ.
Such men are false apostles,
deceitful workmen,
disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.
Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Their end will correspond to their deeds.
Paul does not mean a second set of the Twelve. He means workmen in Corinth who claimed the apostolic office and were not. They preached another Jesus, brought a different spirit, and offered a different gospel. The church put up with it readily enough. Paul calls them false apostles and deceitful workmen. The disguise is the point. They look like apostles of Christ.
- Satan is the pattern. He disguises himself as an angel of light. His servants can look like servants of righteousness.
- A true apostle is sent by Christ and does not traffic in another gospel. Paul will boast only in weakness. These men commend themselves.
- False teachers are the wider warning. False apostles claim the sent office itself.
Do not measure an apostle by the costume. Another Jesus is already the test. Their end will correspond to their deeds.
They disguise themselves as apostles of Christ.
Another Jesus.
A different spirit.
A different gospel.
Their end matches their deeds.
- False apostles are named in 2 Corinthians 11:13.
- They disguise themselves as apostles of Christ.
- The same men are deceitful workmen.
- The gospel test comes first: another Jesus, a different spirit, a different gospel.
- Satan’s angel-of-light disguise is the comparison, not their identity.
- The end corresponds to the deeds.
- The Claim – Apostles of Christ.
- The Disguise – They are not what they wear.
- The Work – Deceitful workmen.
- The Message – Another Jesus, a different gospel.
- The Pattern – Satan as an angel of light.
- The End – According to their deeds.
- 2 Corinthians 11:13 – “For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.”
- 2 Corinthians 11:4 – “If someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit… or if you accept a different gospel… you put up with it readily enough.”
- 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 – “Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.”
- Galatians 1:8 – “Even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.”
- Revelation 2:2 – “You cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.”
Such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.
Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Their end will correspond to their deeds.
You have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.
Test the claim. Another Jesus is already enough. Do not wait for a darker costume. Their end matches their deeds.
