The Galatians are the churches of Galatia turning to another gospel.
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you.
The Galatians are the churches Paul writes in alarm. Some are troubling them and want to distort the gospel of Christ. A contrary gospel is accursed, even from an angel. They began by the Spirit and are being asked to finish by the flesh. Paul says he is in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in them. The church in Galatia is the warning against adding the yoke to Christ. The council of Jerusalem had already refused that yoke. These churches were hearing it again.
- O foolish Galatians is a cry, not a nickname to enjoy.
- They had received Paul as an angel of God. The deserting was quick.
- The promise to Abraham stands. The later teachers were adding a condition.
