Acts 12:25 names Barnabas and Saul returning from Jerusalem, and taking John Mark with them. This Saul is the Pharisee of Tarsus, the persecutor who met the Lord on the Damascus road. He is the same man as Paul. Acts 13:9 says Saul, who was also called Paul. He is not King Saul of Israel. The Hebrew name is Saul. The Roman name is Paul. Luke uses Saul through the early chapters and Paul once the mission moves into the Gentile world.
