Service refers to

¶ Biblical Understanding of Service
The Bible places strong emphasis on service. Jesus Himself came not to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45). He set the ultimate example of humble, sacrificial service.
Every Christian is called to a life of service — not just pastors or those in full-time ministry. Service is not limited to official church roles; it includes all the ways we use what God has given us to help and bless others.
True service flows from a heart of love and gratitude toward God. It is not done to earn salvation or to impress others, but as a response to God’s grace and as an expression of our faith.
- Serving God — We ultimately serve the Lord in everything we do.
- Serving Others — We are called to serve one another in love.
- Using Spiritual Gifts — God has given each believer gifts to be used in service to the body of Christ.
- Humble Service — True service is done with humility, not for recognition or reward.
- Sacrificial Service — Following Jesus often involves laying down our own interests to serve others.
- Mark 10:45 — For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
- Galatians 5:13 — For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
- 1 Peter 4:10 — As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
- Colossians 3:23-24 — And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
- Romans 12:1 — I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
- John 13:14-15 — If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
Understanding service has important implications for the Christian life:
- Every believer is called to serve, not just those in official positions.
- Service is one of the main ways we express our love for God and for others.
- We should serve willingly and joyfully, not out of obligation or for recognition.
