Abiding in Christ is
the practice of remaining in close,
continual fellowship with Jesus.
It is the key to
spiritual fruitfulness, answered prayer,
and a victorious Christian life.
Jesus taught this truth
using the powerful image of
a vine and its branches in John 15.
Jesus said:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
The word “abide” (Greek: menō) means to remain, stay, or dwell. It is not a one-time event but a daily, moment-by-moment relationship of dependence on Christ.
In John 15, Jesus uses the image of a grapevine to explain abiding:
Branches that do not abide wither and are unfruitful. Branches that abide bear much fruit.
