¶ Birth and Early Life of Jesus
Jesus was born in Bethlehem
to the virgin Mary
in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy.
His early years included
a escape to Egypt
and then a quiet upbringing in Nazareth,
where He grew in wisdom
and favor with God and people.
- The angel Gabriel announces the birth to Mary (the Annunciation)
- Joseph and Mary travel to Bethlehem for the census; Jesus is born in a manger
- Shepherds visit the newborn after an angelic announcement
- Wise men (Magi) visit and bring gifts; the family flees to Egypt to escape Herod
- After Herod’s death the family returns and settles in Nazareth
- At age 12 Jesus stays behind in the Jerusalem Temple, amazing the teachers with His understanding
