The character of Christ is
the perfect moral and spiritual nature
of Jesus.
It is the standard for all believers,
who are called to be
conformed to His image.
As we grow in our relationship with Christ,
the Holy Spirit works in us
to develop the same qualities
that were seen in Jesus
during His earthly life.
The Bible reveals many aspects of Jesus’ character, including:
- Love — Sacrificial, unconditional love for God and people (John 13:34-35; 15:13).
- Humility — He humbled Himself, even to death on a cross (Philippians 2:5-8).
- Holiness — He was sinless and perfectly pure (Hebrews 4:15; 7:26).
- Obedience — He always did the Father’s will (John 8:29; Philippians 2:8).
- Compassion — He had mercy on the weak, sick, and lost (Matthew 9:36; 14:14).
- Wisdom and Truth — He spoke and lived truth perfectly (John 14:6).
- Gentleness and Strength — Meek but powerful (Matthew 11:29).
- Joy and Peace — Even in suffering, He had inner joy and peace (John 15:11; 14:27).
These qualities are perfectly balanced in Jesus.
Believers are called to be conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29). This happens through:
- The work of the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18; Galatians 5:22-23).
- Abiding in Christ (John 15:1-5).
- Renewing the mind with God’s Word (Romans 12:2).
