The Deity of Christ is the biblical truth that Jesus is fully God
— eternally existing as the second Person of the Trinity,
sharing the same divine nature, attributes, and glory
as the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Scripture consistently presents Jesus as God in human flesh. He is not a created being or a lesser god; He is the eternal Son who was with the Father from the beginning. His deity is essential to the gospel — only God Himself could provide a perfect, infinite sacrifice for sin.
- Jesus repeatedly claimed equality with God through His “I AM” statements (echoing God’s name in Exodus 3:14).
- The New Testament writers apply Old Testament passages about Yahweh directly to Jesus.
- His miracles, authority over nature, forgiveness of sins, and acceptance of worship all demonstrate His divine identity.
- The early church recognized and defended this truth from the very beginning, even at great cost.
- John 1:1 — “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
- John 8:58 — “Before Abraham was, I am.”
- Colossians 2:9 — “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.”
