Arminianism stresses real human response and resistible grace.
Whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
You always resist the Holy Spirit.
Sincere believers disagree on how grace and the will meet.
Arminianism is a reading of how God saves, named from Jacob Arminius. It teaches that grace goes before faith, and that this grace can be resisted. Election is often read as God’s choice of those who believe, or as a corporate choice in Christ. Christ died for all. Believers are kept by grace, and many Arminians hold that a believer can fall away. The view is not “man saves himself.” It says the sinner responds to a grace that does not force the will. Calvinists read the same texts as effectual grace and perseverance. Both are held by sincere believers.
Whoever believes has life. Arminianism says that believing is a real response to resistible grace. The brothers who differ are still brothers.
Whoever believes in him should not perish.
Arminianism says grace can be resisted.
The sinner still cannot come without grace.
The disagreement is real. The gospel is Christ.
Whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
You always resist the Holy Spirit.
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.
Arminianism says grace draws and can be resisted. It does not say the sinner saves himself. Describe it fairly. Do not make the system the gospel.
