Total depravity means sin has touched every part of us.
We cannot save ourselves.
None is righteous, no, not one.
You were dead in the trespasses and sins.
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.
Total depravity does not mean every person is as bad as possible. It means the whole person is affected by sin: mind, will, affections, and body. None is righteous. The mind set on the flesh is hostile to God. We were dead in trespasses. No one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws him. The teaching is the “T” in a Calvinist summary, and it is also confessed more widely. Arminianism agrees that the sinner cannot come without grace, and then says that grace can be resisted. This page keeps the shared claim: we cannot save ourselves.
None righteous. Dead in sins. Unable to come unless the Father draws. That is the claim. Do not inflate it into “as wicked as possible.”
None is righteous, no, not one.
Dead in the trespasses and sins.
No one can come unless the Father draws him.
Not as bad as possible. Unable to save ourselves.
None is righteous, no, not one.
You were dead in the trespasses and sins.
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.
Total means every part of us, not as bad as we could be. We cannot save ourselves. The call still goes out, because grace carries it.
