Biblical Theology is reading Scripture as one story,
in the order God told it.
Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets,
He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
Long ago,
at many times and in many ways,
God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,
but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son.
The sacred writings are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
God did not drop a system of topics from the sky. He spoke across centuries, to patriarchs, to Israel, through judges, kings, and prophets, and then in the Son. Biblical Theology follows that speech in its own order. It asks what this book meant in its place in the story, and how that place leans toward Christ. The Old Testament is not a failed first draft. The New Testament is not a replacement library. One canon. One plot. Promise, and then fulfillment.
- Jesus opened the Scriptures on the road and said they concerned Himself. Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms were already His story.
- Progressive Revelation is the pace of that story. Later light does not cancel earlier light. It fills it.
- History of Redemption is the plot itself: a people, a covenant, a cross, a resurrection, and a kingdom still ahead.
Fulfillment in Christ is where the lines meet. All the promises of God are Yes in Him. Biblical Theology refuses to flatten Israel into a footnote, and it refuses to leave the promises hanging beside Him as if He were one option among the prophets. It also refuses to turn every page into a debate between systems. Systematic categories can help. They are not the order the Spirit used to write the Book.
Read it in the order He told it.
Begin with Moses.
Walk to the Prophets.
Hear the Psalms.
The lines meet in Christ Jesus.
- Biblical Theology follows the story. It does not start by rearranging the books into topics.
- Earlier Scripture is the context for later Scripture. The end does not erase the beginning.
- Jesus said the Scriptures bear witness about Him. That is the plot key, not a trick.
- Many times and many ways, then the Son. The variety is real. The Speaker is one.
- Wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus is the aim, not a timeline hobby.
- Systems can serve this reading. They must not replace it.
- Test a reading by the whole story, not by the page that helps your point.
- The Order – Patriarchs, exodus, kingdom, exile, Christ, church, age to come.
- The Plot – Promise and fulfillment; a people and a King.
- The Key – The Scriptures concern the Son.
- The Pace – Progressive revelation; later light fills earlier light.
- The Canon – Law, Prophets, Writings, then the apostolic witness.
- The Aim – Wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
- The Limit – A tool for the Bible, not a replacement for it.
- Luke 24:27 – “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”
- Luke 24:44-45 – “Everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
- Hebrews 1:1-2 – “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.”
- John 5:39 – “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me.”
- 2 Timothy 3:15-16 – “From childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God.”
- Matthew 5:17 – “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
- Ephesians 1:10 – “…a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.”
- Acts 17:11 – “They received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”
- Romans 1:1-2 – “…the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures.”
- 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 – “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”
Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke by the prophets. In these last days He has spoken by His Son.
They bear witness about Me. I have not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfill them.
The sacred writings are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, and was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
Do not start with a system and make the story fit. Start with the story God told. Later light fills earlier light. The lines meet in the Son. Examine the Scriptures daily to see if these things are so.
