Search the Heart is what the Lord does when man stops at the face.
I the Lord search the heart and test the mind,
to give every man according to his ways,
according to the fruit of his deeds.
O Lord, you have searched me and known me.
The Spirit searches everything,
even the depths of God
—
and He who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit.
Nothing in all creation is hidden from His sight.
Samuel would have crowned the tall son. The Lord said, Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.
Jeremiah stood in that light: the heart is deceitful and desperately sick; who can understand it? The answer is not a better psychologist. I the Lord search the heart and test the mind.
David prayed to be searched—not to be left alone with a lying inner room. Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts. See if there be any grievous way in me.
Solomon said the Lord weighs the heart.
Jesus knew what was in man and did not need testimony about man. He perceived thoughts. He named the inside of the cup. At the end He will disclose the purposes of the heart. This searching is judgment for the hypocrite and mercy for the one who wants a clean heart. It is also how prayer is helped: He who searches hearts knows the Spirit’s groaning when we do not know what to pray. You cannot lock the well. You can ask Him to look and to heal what He finds.
- Search is God’s verb. Self-estimate is not the last exam.

- Test the mind means motives go on the scale, not only outcomes.
- Search me is a brave prayer because the heart is deceitful.
- Christ already knows what is in man. Ministry that forgets that becomes theater.
- The Spirit’s search runs both ways: depths of God, and our hearts in prayer.
- Fruit of deeds will match what the search found.

And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
