Serve is what a fevered woman did when she rose,
and what the Son of Man came to do.
The fever left her,
and she began to serve them.
The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve,
and to give His life as a ransom for many.
Through love serve one another.
Serving is not last place in the kingdom.
It is the shape of the King.
Israel was brought out of Pharaoh’s house to serve the Lord. Joshua said, As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. No one can serve two masters. You cannot serve God and money. Jesus tied a towel and washed feet. I have given you an example. Whoever would be great among you must be your servant. Peter’s mother-in-law put the pattern in a kitchen before the crowds arrived at sundown: lifted, then serving. Martha served and grew anxious; Mary sat; both love is needed, and the better portion is not an excuse to despise the table. Gifts are for serving one another as good stewards. The household of Caesar had saints who served. Paul called himself a servant of Christ Jesus. Freedom in the gospel is not unemployment. You were called to freedom; do not use it as an opportunity for the flesh. The risen Lord still says Feed My sheep. Service after healing is gratitude with hands. Service from the Son is blood. The first is our yes. The second is our life.
