¶ Your Sons and Your Daughters Shall Prophesy
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy is the Lord’s promise of the poured-out Spirit.
And it shall come to pass afterward,
that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh.
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your old men shall dream dreams,
and your young men shall see visions.
Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out My Spirit.
This is what was uttered through the prophet Joel.
They are not drunk.
This is that.
Joel spoke to a land stripped by locusts and called to a fast. After judgment and after the Lord became jealous for His land, he promised rain—former and latter—and then a pouring that was not water. Spirit on all flesh. Sons and daughters. Old and young. Servants. The point is not that every child becomes a court prophet like Nathan. The point is that the Spirit would no longer be the rare oil on a king, a priest, or a named seer.
Pentecost morning Peter stood up and said the clock had struck. All flesh in Joel becomes, in Acts, men and women from every nation under heaven hearing the mighty works of God in their own tongues.
Moses had once cried, Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put His Spirit on them. The day arrived. Daughters are named so that no one can say the promise stopped at sons. Servants are named so that no one can say it stopped at rank.
Prophesy here is speech from God for the building of a people—declaration, warning, consolation—not a new priesthood of celebrities. The same paragraph still holds the sun turned to darkness and the great and awesome day. The gift and the Day belong to one promise.
Call on the name of the Lord and be saved.
- Afterward and in the last days are how Joel and Peter date the pouring.
- All flesh breaks the old rationing of the Spirit to a few offices.
- Sons and daughters together is the text. Do not edit the household.
- Servants receive the same verb. Status is not the pipeline.
- This is that. Pentecost is fulfillment begun, not a slogan to ignore Joel.
- Prophesy serves the Name men must call on to be saved.
- Dreams and visions are the Lord’s to give. They do not replace the written Word.
¶ Key Aspects of Your Sons and Your Daughters Shall Prophesy
- Poured Out – Spirit as rain after stripping; not dripped on a few.
- All Flesh – The wideness of the gift.
- Sons and Daughters – Both named; both speak.
- Old and Young – Dreams and visions across the years.
- Male and Female Servants – No caste in the pouring.
- This Is That – Peter’s sentence over Joel in Jerusalem.
- Call on the Name – Salvation in the same breath as the gift.
- Joel 2:28-32 – “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit… And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
- Acts 2:16-18, 21 – “But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel: ‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.’… ‘And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”
- Acts 2:4, 11, 33 – They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues… we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God… Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.

I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.
Your old men shall dream dreams. Your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit.
This is what was uttered through the prophet Joel.
Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put His Spirit on them.
He has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Do not ration what He poured. Do not silence the names He listed. Speak for upbuilding. Call on the Name. The last days have begun. The great Day is still ahead.
