Agape is the love God shows, and the love He commands.
God is love.
Agape is the Greek word the New Testament uses for the love of God and the love believers are to have. God so loved the world that He gave His Son. Jesus gives a new commandment, that we love one another as He has loved us. Paul says love is patient and kind, does not envy, and never ends. John writes that God is love, and that we love because He first loved us. The agape feast takes its name from this word. The meal is not the definition. The love is.
- Agape is not a feeling added to the gospel. It is the love that gave the Son.
- The command is to love one another as He loved us. The measure is His cross.
- The feast can be spoiled. The word cannot be reduced to a table.
God is love.
Love one another as I have loved you.
Love never ends.
- Agape is the New Testament word for this love.
- God is love. The word is not a mood.
- He loved first. We love because He did.
