Pride is the heart lifted up against God.
Pride goes before destruction,
and a haughty spirit before a fall.
You said in your heart,
I will ascend to heaven.
God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.
Pride is not a strong gift used well. It is the self set in God’s place. Proverbs puts destruction after it. Jesus says what comes out of the heart includes pride. James says God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble.
