James is a name shared by more than one man in the New Testament.
They are not the same person.
Use the page that matches the verse.
James is the Greek form of Jacob. Three men are named often enough to keep apart. James the son of Zebedee is the apostle, brother of John, killed by Herod. James the son of Alphaeus is the other apostle in the lists. James the brother of Jesus is the one who leads in Jerusalem and writes the letter. James the younger, or James the Less, is the son of Mary the mother of James. He is often identified with the son of Alphaeus. The text does not finish that identification.
Three men named James.
The son of Zebedee. The son of Alphaeus. The brother of the Lord.
Do not give one man the others’ stories.
James the son of Zebedee is not James the brother of the Lord.
James the son of Alphaeus is the other apostle.
James the younger is the son of the other Mary.
Match the verse. The sword, the letter, and the list are three stories.
