The Ten Lepers are the band who stood at a distance,
were cleansed on the road,
and left nine who never came back.
Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!
Go and show yourselves to the priests.
And as they went they were cleansed.
Then one of them,
when he saw that he was healed,
turned back,
praising God with a loud voice.
He fell on his face at Jesus’ feet,
giving Him thanks.
Now he was a Samaritan.
Were not ten cleansed?
Where are the nine?
Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?
Rise and go your way;
your faith has made you well.
Luke sets them between Samaria and Galilee, on the way to Jerusalem. Distance is what the Law taught a leper. Mercy is what they shout. He does not touch this time. He sends them toward priests while the skin is still what it was. As they went they were cleansed—obedience first, then the change under their feet. Nine keep the appointment with the system. One sees, turns, shouts glory, and finds the feet. He is a Samaritan, the last man a Galilean village would have counted as the pious remainder. Foreigner is Jesus’ word, not a sneer—He is pointing at Israel’s missing nine. Made you well can carry more than the skin the ten already share. All ten were cleansed. One heard Rise, faith, go. Gratitude is not a polite extra. It is how a foreigner ends up at the right feet while the instructed walk on with new skin and old distance. The first leper was told to show the priest and could not keep quiet. These are told the same, and nine treat the priest as the end of the story. The tenth treats Jesus as the place praise belongs.
- At a distance they already know the rules. Mercy still has to be asked.
- As they went ties cleansing to the walk of obedience, not to a podium moment.
- Seeing that he was healed is the fork. Nine saw enough to keep going.
- Loud praise and a face on the ground are what faith looks like when it turns.
- Samaritan is Luke’s sting and Luke’s gospel: the outsider at the feet.
- Where are the nine is aimed at people who have Moses and new skin.
- Your faith has made you well may mark the one who came back as whole in more than hide.

And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, ‘Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!’ When he saw them he said to them, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, ‘Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?’ And he said to him, ‘Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.’”

Jesus, Master, have mercy on us! Go and show yourselves to the priests. As they went they were cleansed.
One turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He fell at Jesus’ feet, giving Him thanks. He was a Samaritan.
Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?
Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.
Forget not all His benefits. The one who offers thanksgiving glorifies Me.
Do not collect clean skin and skip the feet. Walk when He sends you. When you see you are healed, turn back. Let the loud voice be praise, not only the old cry from a distance. Ten can be cleansed. Be the one who returns.
