The Woman with the Flow of Blood is the one who touched His garment in the crowd and was healed of a twelve-year hemorrhage.
She had suffered much under many physicians,
and had spent all that she had,
and was no better but rather grew worse.
If I touch even His garments, I will be made well.
Immediately the flow of blood dried up.
Jesus, perceiving in Himself that power had gone out from Him,
said, Who touched My garments?
Daughter, your faith has made you well;
go in peace, and be healed of your disease.
Twelve years of uncleanness met a hem,
and the Law’s exile ended in a word: Daughter.
Leviticus had named her days: a discharge of blood made a woman unclean, and whoever touched her was unclean. Twelve years is also the age of Jairus’s dying girl. Mark braids the two stories so that a daughter of twelve and a woman sick twelve years meet the same Lord on the same road. The crowd presses. She comes from behind. No speech first—only a conviction about His clothes. Power goes out. He stops a mission to a ruler’s house for a woman who wanted to vanish into health. Who touched Me? The disciples talk statistics. He looks. She falls down and tells Him the whole truth. Daughter is the first word she gets from His mouth. Faith is named. Peace is given. The healing is spoken as well as done, so she does not walk away a thief of power but a child dismissed in shalom. Uncleanness does not contaminate Him. He cleanses what touches Him. Jairus is still waiting. The delay will look like death and become a second daughter-word: Little girl, arise.
- Spent all and grew worse is the end of a medical road, not a slight against care.
- If I touch even His garments is faith with almost no theology class—and He honors it.
- Power going out means a real gift, not a magic leak she stole.
- Who touched Me separates a desperate hand from a jostling mob.
- Daughter undoes twelve years of stay back, do not touch.
- Twelve and twelve: two clocks, one mercy.
- Go in peace is more than “you may leave.” It is restored place among the people.
- Twelve Years – Bleed; spend; worsen; unclean.
- From Behind – Crowd; hem; no name yet.
- Power Out – He knows; they do not.
- The Whole Truth – Told in fear and trembling.
- Daughter – Faith; peace; be healed.
- Beside Jairus – Interruption that saves two houses.
- Clean – Touch that does not defile the Holy One.
- Mark 5:25-34 – “And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, ‘If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.’ And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched my garments?’… But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.’”
- Luke 8:43-48 – A woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, no one could heal her… “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.”… “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
- Matthew 9:20-22 – She touched the fringe of His garment… “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.”
- Leviticus 15:25-27 – If a woman has a discharge of blood for many days… she shall be unclean. Whoever touches these things shall be unclean.
- Numbers 15:38-39 – Tassels on the corners of their garments… look at it and remember all the commandments of the Lord.
- Malachi 4:2 – The sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings (kanaph—also corners, edges).
- Mark 5:21-24, 35-42 – Jairus’s daughter, about twelve… “Little girl, I say to you, arise.”
- Mark 6:56 – They laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored Him that they might touch even the fringe of His garment. And as many as touched it were made well.
- Luke 6:19 – All the crowd sought to touch Him, for power came out from Him and healed them all.
If I touch even His garments, I will be made well. Immediately the flow of blood dried up.
Who touched My garments? Power had gone out from Him.
She told Him the whole truth. Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.
Twelve years unclean. Twelve years old, dying. Two daughters. One Lord.
Look at the tassels and remember the commandments. The sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings.
Do not spend yourself to the last coin and never come behind Him. Touch. Tell the whole truth. Hear Daughter. Uncleanness does not win when it meets His hem. Go in peace.
