Nebuchadnezzar is the king of Babylon whom God called My servant,
who tore down Jerusalem,
and who learned that the Most High rules the kingdom of men.
He dreamed of a statue and of a tree.
Daniel told him both.
He heated a furnace seven times hotter and then blessed the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
He ate grass like an ox until his reason returned,
and he praised the King of heaven.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion.
He is the head of gold in the dream he could not remember. God gave Judah into his hand. He carried vessels from the temple and young men from the royal line—Daniel among them. Jeremiah had said this king would come, and that the land would serve the king of Babylon seventy years. He besieged the city, burned the house of the Lord, and led the people away. Scripture will not flatter him, and it will not deny that the Lord used him. Pride grew with the palace. Is not this great Babylon, which I have built? While the words were in his mouth the sentence fell. Seven times passed over him. Dew of heaven, hair like eagles’ feathers, nails like birds’ claws. Then his reason returned. He lifted his eyes to heaven. Those who walk in pride He is able to humble. The furnace had already shown another king in the fire, one like a son of the gods. The tree dream had already warned him to break off his sins by practicing righteousness. He is a Gentile monarch in the times of the Gentiles, a rod in God’s hand, and a man who had to lose a mind to find out who rules.

You are the head of gold. The God of heaven has given you the kingdom.
Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant.
I see four men unbound, walking in the fire, and the fourth is like a son of the gods.
Is not this great Babylon, which I have built? While the words were still in his mouth, the kingdom departed.
The Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He will.
My reason returned to me. I blessed the Most High. Those who walk in pride He is able to humble.
Empires are assigned. Temples can burn. A king can eat grass. Lift your eyes to heaven. The Stone will crush the statue. The Most High still rules.
