Arise, go to Nineveh,
that great city,
and cry against it.
And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way.
Nineveh is the great city of Assyria. God sent Jonah to cry against it. The city repented, from the king to the beast, and God saw their works and turned from the evil He had said He would do. Nahum later named its fall. The city that was spared was not spared for ever. Jesus said the men of Nineveh shall rise in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and a greater than Jonah is here.
