Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell,
to the sides of the pit.
Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming.
Is this the man that made the earth to tremble?
The sides of the pit are where Isaiah says the fallen one is brought. The proverb against the king of Babylon has him say, I will ascend into heaven, I will be like the most High. The answer is, Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. Hell from beneath is moved to meet him. They that see him ask, Is this the man? The pit is the low place. Sheol is the word behind hell in this chapter. The sides of the pit are the far side of that descent, not a throne.
