The Gathering of the Elect is the act of the coming Son of Man when He sends His angels to collect His people from the four winds.
Jesus placed it after the tribulation of those days and after the sign of the Son of Man appears in heaven.
A loud trumpet call sounds.
The elect are gathered from one end of heaven to the other.
This is not a rumor in the wilderness.
It is the King’s own harvest of those the Father gave Him.
On the Mount of Olives Jesus answered the question about His coming and the end of the age.
- After the shaking of sun, moon, and stars, the sign of the Son of Man appears.
- All the tribes mourn.
- They see Him coming on the clouds with power and great glory.
- Then He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Mark says the same: from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
The word elect names those the Father chose in Christ. The gathering names the moment they are brought together to the Lord Himself.
Paul wrote that the Lord Himself will descend with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God,
- and the dead in Christ will rise first;
- then those who are alive will be caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air.
- He also wrote that the coming of the Lord and our being gathered to Him should not unsettle the church by false alarms.
The prophets had already spoken of a gathered remnant and of the Lord assembling His people. Jesus took that hope and bound it to His own appearing.
- The gathering is the work of the coming Christ, carried out by His angels.
- It is public, worldwide, and joined to the trumpet and the clouds.
- The elect are already His before they are gathered; the gathering does not create the people, it collects them.
- False christs gather crowds in secret places. The true gathering is from the four winds at His appearing.
- The dead in Christ and the living in Christ are brought together to the Lord.
- Comfort, not panic, is the pastoral aim of this teaching.
- The same Lord who chose, called, and kept His people will not lose them at the end.
- After the Sign – It follows the cosmic shaking and the appearing of the Son of Man.
- Angels Sent – The King dispatches His messengers for the harvest.
- Loud Trumpet – A public summons, not a whisper.
- Four Winds – From every direction, every nation, every distance.
- The Elect – Those the Father gave to the Son, chosen in Him.
- Together with the Lord – The point of the gathering is to meet Him.
- Not a Secret Rumor – Lightning from east to west; every eye will see Him.

- 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 – “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.”

- Matthew 24:24, 26-27 – “For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect… If they say to you, ‘Look, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out… For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”
- John 6:39-40 – “And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.”
- John 10:16, 27-28 – “And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd… I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
- Ephesians 1:4, 10 – “Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world… as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.”

- John 14:3 – “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”
He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds.
The King who chose them will not misplace them.
Do not run after a whisper in the desert. Do not be shaken by a rumor that the day has already come.
The Lord Himself will descend. The dead in Christ will rise. The living will be caught up together with them.
So we will always be with the Lord.
Encourage one another with these words.
Lift up your heads. The gathering belongs to the Son of Man, and He will lose nothing of all that the Father has given Him.
