The Holy Place was the first and larger room of the tabernacle (and later the temple), entered only by the priests to perform the daily ministry before the Lord.
It contained the golden lampstand, the table of the bread of the Presence, and the altar of incense, all of which pointed forward to Christ and the privileges of the new covenant.
Separated from the courtyard by a screen and from the Most Holy Place by the veil, the Holy Place was a realm of continual priestly service in the presence of God.
In Christ the way into the true Holy Place has been opened, and every believer is now called to draw near with confidence.
When the Lord instructed Moses to build the tabernacle, He designed two inner rooms. The first was the Holy Place. Only the consecrated priests could enter it, and they did so daily to tend the lamps, replace the bread of the Presence, and burn incense. The golden lampstand gave light in the otherwise dark room. The table held twelve loaves representing the twelve tribes of Israel, continually set before the face of God. The altar of incense stood before the veil, and the fragrant smoke rose as a picture of prayer ascending to the Lord. Beyond the veil lay the Most Holy Place, entered only once a year by the high priest. The Holy Place therefore stood as the sphere of regular priestly ministry — light, fellowship, and intercession — yet still one step removed from the immediate presence of God above the mercy seat. The New Testament declares that Christ has entered the greater and more perfect tent, and that His people now have confidence to enter the holy places by His blood. The shadows have given way to the substance.

The Holy Place was the daily workplace of the priests — light from the lampstand, bread on the table, incense rising before the veil. It was near to God, yet still separated from the Most Holy Place by the curtain. Every detail pointed beyond itself to Christ. He is the true Light. He is the true Bread of the Presence. His intercession rises continually like incense. And by His blood the veil has been torn. The way into the holy places is now open. Believers are no longer kept outside; they are a royal priesthood, invited to draw near with confidence. The shadow has given way to the substance. Come near. The Holy Place is open, and the presence of God is yours in Christ.
