Generosity of God is the open-handedness of the Owner who gives what is His as He chooses.
Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to Me?
Or do you begrudge My generosity?
He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all,
how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things?
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of lights.
The laborers who worked from dawn called the master’s equal pay unfair. He called it goodness. The word in Matthew is the master’s right to be kind with what is His.
That is the nerve of the whole Bible.
- Creation is gift.
- Breath is gift.
- The land, the harvest, the daily bread, the rain on just and unjust—all gift.
Israel was told not to appear before the Lord empty-handed because He had first filled their hands. The Father gives the Spirit. The Son gives His life.
Grace is not God paying a wage you earned at six in the morning. Grace is the eleventh-hour denarius and the first-hour denarius both coming from the same purse.
- An evil eye looks at another person’s portion and calls the Giver tight or reckless.
- Faith looks at the cross and stops counting.
He gives wisdom without reproach. He gives more grace to the humble. He is able to make all grace abound, so that having all sufficiency in all things you may abound in every good work.
The church that begrudges His generosity toward the late and the last has forgotten who paid for the vineyard.
- Generosity is what belongs to Him, given as He wills—not a bonus you extract.
- The evil eye is envy wearing the mask of fairness.
- The Son is the measure of the gift. After that gift, “all things” is not a stretch.
- Open hand and open heaven are the same God.
- You cannot out-give a Father who already gave the Son.
- Grace to the eleventh hour does not cheat the first hour. Both eat from His table.
- We give because He first gave. Tight fists are not a fruit of knowing Him.
- The Owner’s Right – What is His, He may give.
- The Son – The gift that interprets every lesser gift.
- Daily Bread – Rain, food, breath, the world He did not have to make.
- Grace upon Grace – Not wages for hours, but favor for the undeserving.
- Without Reproach – He gives wisdom and does not shame the asker.
- All Sufficiency – So that you can abound in good work, not in hoarding.
- The Warning – Do not begrudge the Giver when He is kind to another.
- Matthew 20:14-15 – “Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?”

- Psalm 145:15-16 – “The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing.”
- Psalm 23:5 – “You prepare a table before me… my cup overflows.”
- Matthew 5:45 – He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
- Matthew 7:11 – “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
- Luke 11:13 – How much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.
- Luke 6:38 – “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap.”
- Acts 20:35 – “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
- 1 Timothy 6:17 – God “who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.”
- Romans 5:5, 8 – God’s love has been poured into our hearts; God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- Titus 3:4-7 – When the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, He saved us… so that being justified by His grace we might become heirs.
- Malachi 3:10 – “Put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.”
- Ephesians 3:20 – He is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think.
