The Love of God is the eternal, self-giving affection and commitment of the triune God toward His people and, in a wider sense, toward the world He has made.
It is not a response to human worthiness but the overflow of God’s own nature; God is love.
This love is most clearly displayed in the giving of His Son for sinners and is poured into the hearts of believers through the Holy Spirit.
The love of God is the source of salvation, the security of the believer, and the motive for all Christian love and obedience.
Scripture presents the love of God as both an essential attribute and an active, saving energy. The Father loves the Son from all eternity, and that same love is extended to those who are united to the Son. God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us — the supreme demonstration of divine love. The same love elects, calls, justifies, sanctifies, and keeps. It is poured into the hearts of believers by the Holy Spirit and becomes the controlling reality of the Christian life. Nothing in all creation can separate the people of God from the love of God in Christ Jesus. This love is not sentimental or indulgent; it is holy, purposeful, and costly. It disciplines those it receives and conforms them to the image of Christ. The proper response is faith, gratitude, obedience, and the extension of the same love to others.

Nothing in all creation can separate us from it. Therefore rest in the love of God. Keep yourselves in the love of God. Let it quiet your fears, fuel your obedience, and overflow in love for others. The God who is love has set His love upon you in Christ — everlasting, unchangeable, and enough for time and eternity.
