¶ Life and Ministry of Jesus
Jesus’ public ministry
began after His baptism by John the Baptist
and lasted approximately three years.
During this time He
preached the kingdom of God,
performed miracles,
called disciples,
and taught with unmatched authority
before ultimately heading to Jerusalem.
- Baptism by John in the Jordan River and the descent of the Holy Spirit
- Temptation by Satan in the wilderness for forty days
- Calling of the first disciples (Peter, Andrew, James, and John)
- Beginning of public teaching and many miracles in Galilee
- Sermon on the Mount and extensive use of parables
- Raising of Lazarus and other major miracles
- Increasing conflict with religious leaders
- Transfiguration on the mountain
- Final journey to Jerusalem for Passover
- Matthew 3–4 – Baptism, temptation, and beginning of ministry
- Matthew 5–7 – Sermon on the Mount
- Mark 1–10 – Core record of Jesus’ Galilean ministry
- John 1–12 – Early signs and teachings, including the raising of Lazarus
- Luke 9:51 – “He set his face to go to Jerusalem”
