The Kingdom of Darkness is the domain of sin, death, and the devil from which God delivers His people.
Paul said the Father has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.
It is real rule, not a mood.
It is not equal to the kingdom of God.
The Son has already disarmed its rulers,
and He will put every enemy under His feet.
Scripture speaks of darkness as more than night. It is the realm of those who love evil, the hour of the power of darkness at the arrest of Jesus, and the present evil age over which the god of this world blinds minds.
- Jesus sent Paul to open eyes, that people might turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God.
- Colossians names it a domain: a jurisdiction with rulers, authorities, and a hold on the guilty.
- Those who once walked in darkness were darkness.
- Now in the Lord they are light.
The fight of the church is not against flesh and blood but against the cosmic powers over this present darkness. Transfer, not negotiation, is the gospel word. No one votes himself out of that kingdom. The Father delivers. The Son redeems. The Spirit opens eyes.
Until the end, the darkness still rages, but it does not own those who are in Christ.
- Darkness in this phrase is rule and bondage, not merely ignorance.
- Deliverance is a transfer of citizenship, accomplished in Christ.
- The powers of darkness are creatures; they are not a second God.
- Light is not a feeling. It is belonging to the beloved Son.
- The hour of darkness was allowed at the cross, and the cross unmasked it.
- Saints still wrestle, but they wrestle as people already moved into another kingdom.
- The darkness cannot finally hold what the Father has transferred.
- Domain – A real jurisdiction of sin, deception, and death.
- Power of Satan – Eyes shut, minds blinded, people held.
- Present Darkness – Cosmic powers over this age, not only private vices.
- Hour at the Cross – This is your hour, and the power of darkness.
- Transfer – Delivered from the domain of darkness into the Son’s kingdom.
- Children of Light – Once darkness, now light in the Lord.
- Doomed Reign – Every rule and power will be destroyed when the kingdom is delivered to the Father.
- Colossians 1:13-14 – “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
- Acts 26:17-18 – “…delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles—to whom I am sending you to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.”
- Ephesians 6:12 – “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
- Ephesians 5:8-11 – “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light… and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.”
- Luke 22:53 – “When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
- John 3:19-21 – “And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.”
- John 8:12 – “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”
- John 12:31, 46 – “Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out… I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.”
- 2 Corinthians 4:4-6 – “In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ… For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts…”
- Colossians 2:15 – “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.”
- 1 Peter 2:9 – “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
- 1 John 1:5-7 – “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all… if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
- Romans 13:12 – “The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.”
- Matthew 8:12 – “While the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
- Matthew 25:41 – “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’”
- 1 Corinthians 15:24-26 – “Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power… The last enemy to be destroyed is death.”
- Isaiah 9:2 – “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.”
- Colossians 1:16 – Thrones, dominions, rulers, and authorities were created through Him and for Him.
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.
That is the gospel in a change of address.
You were darkness. Now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.
Do not wrestle as if people were the throne. Do not fear as if the darkness were equal to the Son.
The hour of darkness came, and the cross disarmed the rulers.
Turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God.
Proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
