Sword is the Word that cuts,
the weapon He told Peter to sheathe,
and the blade that comes from His mouth.
The word of God is living and active,
sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing to the division of soul and of spirit.
I have not come to bring peace,
but a sword.
Put your sword back into its place.
For all who take the sword will perish by the sword.
Take the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God.
One blade saves.
One blade only sheds.
Know which you have picked up.
A sword guards Eden after the fall—turning, flaming, no way back by force. Israel took a sword into Canaan under command, not as a private appetite. The king bears the sword as God’s servant for wrath on the evildoer. That is Rome in Romans 13, not a crusade in Peter’s fist. In Gethsemane the wrong sword comes out. Malchus loses an ear. Jesus puts the kingdom back where it belongs: My servants would fight if My kingdom were of this world. They are not. He drinks the cup. The sword He did bring is the split of a household over His Name, and the cut of Scripture inside a person. Two edges: it wounds the hearer and the speaker. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Isaiah said He made His mouth like a sharp sword. Revelation shows that mouth-sword striking the nations. Paul lists one offensive piece in the armor: the Spirit’s sword, the word. Pray in the Spirit with it. Do not baptize a temper and call it Ephesians 6. The Lamb conquers by blood and by a word, not by Peter’s steel.
- Two-edged means you do not swing it only at other people.
- Not peace but a sword is division over Him, not a charter for church militias.
- Put it back is policy for the garden and for the age of the gospel.
- Governing authority bears a sword. The church bears a testimony.
- Sword of the Spirit is a spoken Book, not a vibe.
- From His mouth is how the last battle is pictured. The Word is the weapon.
- Flaming sword at Eden said you cannot hack your way home. The Son is the way.
- Of the Word – Living, active, piercing; thoughts laid open.
- Of the Spirit – Armor; prayer; the spoken Scriptures.
- Of His Mouth – Isaiah’s Servant; the Rider on the white horse.
- Of Division – Households split over the Son.
- Of Peter – Sheathed; ear healed; cup drunk.
- Of the Magistrate – Not borne in vain; wrath on evil.
- At the Gate – Eden shut; no return by force.
- Hebrews 4:12-13 – “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight.”
- Ephesians 6:17-18 – Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit.
- Matthew 10:34 – “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
- Luke 12:51 – “Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.”
- Matthew 26:52-54 – “Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword… How then should the Scriptures be fulfilled?”
- John 18:11, 36 – “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”… “If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting.”
- Revelation 1:16; 19:15 – From His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword… From His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations.
- Isaiah 49:2 – He made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of His hand He hid me.
- Romans 13:4 – He is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain.
- Genesis 3:24 – He placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.
- Hebrews 4:12 – Sharper than any two-edged sword.
- Revelation 2:12, 16 – The words of Him who has the sharp two-edged sword… Repent. If not, I will come to you soon and war against them with the sword of My mouth.
The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword.
I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
Put your sword back into its place. Shall I not drink the cup?
Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit.
From His mouth comes a sharp sword. He made My mouth like a sharp sword.
If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would have been fighting.
Do not confuse Peter’s steel with the Spirit’s blade. Let the Book cut you first. Speak it. Sheathe what only wounds an ear. The King fights with a word and a cross. The magistrate’s sword is another office. Yours is the Word. Use it.
