Division is what truth does when it meets a crowd
—
and what the flesh does when it forgets the Head.
Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth?
No, I tell you, but rather division.
From now on in one house there will be five divided,
three against two and two against three.
I appeal to you, brothers,
that there be no divisions among you.
Is Christ divided?
There is a split the Lord makes,
and a split we make in His name that He never asked for.
In the beginning God divided light from darkness, waters from waters, day from night. Separation is how He makes a world and a people. Abram, get out. Come out from among them. The Word is sharper than a two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit. Jesus will not let a false peace sit on a household that will not have Him. Some said He was the Christ. Others said no. There was a division among the people. A man born blind splits a synagogue. Legion left a town divided between a calm man and a drowned herd. That kind of division is the gospel doing its work.
Another kind is Corinth: I am of Paul, I of Apollos, I of Cephas, I of Christ. Factions dressed as loyalty. Paul asks if Christ is sliced. Watch those who cause divisions contrary to the doctrine you have been taught. A divisive man, after warning, is out. The devil divides what God joined—man and wife, Jew and Gentile in one body, brothers at one table. Do not baptize a party spirit as discernment. Do not glue together what the Son has split by His claim. Peace on earth is still His gift. The sword is how He gets there when idols will not move.

- Romans 16:17 – Watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.
