The Porch is the covered front of the Lord’s house,
and in the New Testament the colonnade called Solomon’s.
He built the vestibule at the front of the nave of the house.
Jesus was walking in the temple,
in the colonnade of Solomon.
All the people ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s.
Many signs and wonders were regularly done among the people by the hands of the apostles,
and they were all together in Solomon’s Portico.
The porch is where holy space meets the crowd.
Solomon’s temple had a porch—an ulam—twenty cubits wide and towering in front of the holy place. Bronze pillars stood there, Jachin and Boaz: He establishes; in Him is strength.
Ezekiel saw porches in the visionary house, measured and gated. After the exile and in Herod’s temple a long colonnade on the eastern side kept Solomon’s name. That is the walk Jesus used in winter when the Jews gathered and said, If you are the Christ, tell us plainly. He answered with sheep and the Father’s hand.
After the lame man walked, Peter preached in that same portico.
The early church gathered there—public, Jewish, under the roof of the old house, announcing a risen Lord. A porch is not the Most Holy Place. It is not the street. It is the threshold. Priests passed through it toward blood and incense. Apostles stood in it toward the nation.
Peter also stood in a courtyard porch when a servant girl asked if he was with Jesus, and he denied it. Two porches: one of witness, one of fear. The building teaches the same lesson as the man. Thresholds tell the truth.
- The porch belongs to the house. It is not a neutral shed.
- Jachin and Boaz preached from the front: established; strength in Him.
- Solomon’s Portico is where Jesus spoke plainly and where the church first went public after Pentecost.
- Signs in the porch gathered a crowd the Sanhedrin could not ignore.
- A porch can be courage or collapse—apostles together, or Peter by the fire.
- You do not live on the porch forever. You either go in or you go out.
- The veil is torn. The porch is no longer the farthest some may come.

Do not camp on the threshold as if it were the throne. Witness in the portico. Weep between porch and altar. Then enter by the new and living way. The house is open. The pillars still say He establishes, and in Him is strength.
