The Miraculous Catch of Fish after the Resurrection is the dawn on Tiberias when the risen Lord filled the net again.
Simon Peter said to them,
I am going fishing.
They said,
We will go with you.
That night they caught nothing.
Just as day was breaking,
Jesus stood on the shore;
yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.
Cast the net on the right side of the boat,
and you will find some.
They were not able to haul it in because of the quantity of fish.
That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter,
It is the Lord.
Peter threw himself into the sea.
One hundred fifty-three large fish,
and the net was not torn.
Come and have breakfast.
Simon, son of John, do you love Me?
Feed My sheep.
The first great catch had ended with boats on the sand and men leaving everything. This catch finds the same men back at the trade after a cross, a tomb, and at least two appearances. Night, nothing, a voice from land they do not yet name. The command is almost the old one, only more precise: the right side. Recognition comes as abundance plus memory. The beloved disciple reads the sign. Peter dresses and swims. A charcoal fire is already burning—the smell of a courtyard where he had denied—and fish and bread the Lord has provided before they drag their own. Bring some of what you caught. He does not need their fish. He lets them add it. Breakfast first, then the threefold question that matches the threefold fall. Love Me. Feed. Follow. The Luke catch was vocation. This catch is restoration. Same sea. Same empty night. Same obedience. A net that does not tear. A Shepherd who will not let the fisher stay only a fisher.
- I am going fishing can be provision or drift. He meets both.
- They did not know Him on the shore until the net said His name.
- It is the Lord is how the church still recognizes Him: word plus the old mercy.
- The net not torn after so many is resurrection order, not better rope.
- Charcoal fire is memory without a lecture. He feeds before He asks.
- Three loves answer three denials. Sheep, not shame, get the last verb.
- He already has fish on the fire. Their catch is fellowship, not His shortage.
- Night and Nothing – The old emptiness after Easter.
- The Shore – He stands; they do not yet know.
- Right Side – A command as specific as Cana.
- It Is the Lord – The beloved names Him; Peter moves.
- One Hundred Fifty-Three – Counted, large, hauled to land.
- Breakfast – His fire; His bread; their fish welcomed.
- Do You Love Me – Feed My lambs; tend; feed; follow.
- John 21:1-14 – After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias… “I am going fishing.”… That night they caught nothing. Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore… “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.”… That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!”… Simon Peter… hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.”… This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.
- John 21:15-19 – “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”… “Feed my lambs.”… “Tend my sheep.”… “Feed my sheep.”… “Follow me.”
- John 21:7 – When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment… and threw himself into the sea.
- Luke 5:5-11 – At Your word I will let down the nets… Depart from me, for I am a sinful man… From now on you will be catching men.
- John 18:17-18, 25-27 – Peter denied it… Now the servants and officers had made a charcoal fire… Peter again denied it, and at once a rooster crowed.
- John 20:19-21 – Peace be with you… “As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
- Luke 24:41-43 – He asked, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave Him a piece of broiled fish.
- Matthew 4:19 – Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.
- 1 Peter 5:2-4 – Shepherd the flock of God that is among you… and when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
- Acts 1:3 – He presented Himself alive after His suffering by many proofs.
I am going fishing. That night they caught nothing.
Cast the net on the right side of the boat. It is the Lord.
One hundred fifty-three large fish, and the net was not torn.
Come and have breakfast.
Simon, son of John, do you love Me? Feed My lambs. Tend My sheep. Follow Me.
This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after He was raised from the dead.
Do not go back to the empty night as if the tomb were still shut. Hear the voice from the shore. Plunge toward Him. Eat what He has already put on the fire. Answer the question. The catch after the resurrection is not a hobby. It is a Shepherd putting a fisher back to work.
