Water into Wine is the first of the signs Jesus did at Cana in Galilee.
When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, They have no wine.
Woman, what does this have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.
His mother said to the servants,
Do whatever He tells you.
Six stone jars stood there for the Jewish rites of purification,
twenty or thirty gallons each.
Fill the jars with water.
Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.
The master tasted the water now become wine and did not know where it came from.
Everyone serves the good wine first.
You have kept the good wine until now.
This, the first of His signs,
Jesus did at Cana in Galilee,
and manifested His glory.
And His disciples believed in Him.
A wedding runs dry. In that world the shame is public. Mary brings the lack to her Son. He answers with hour-language—the cross is still ahead—and then He acts. Purification jars, not banquet pitchers, take the water. Law-wash stone holds what will be poured as joy. No speech over the pot. No show for the master of the feast. Servants know. The bridegroom is praised for what he did not do. Good wine last is the opposite of the world’s habit and a hint of the better covenant.
- Amos promised the mountains would drip sweet wine.
- Isaiah invited, Come, buy wine and milk without money.
- Jesus will later take a cup and call it the new covenant in His blood.
Cana is not that hour, but the glory begins where a feast would have failed. The sign is not a license to love the jar. It is the Bridegroom standing in another man’s wedding, already keeping the good until now. Disciples believe. The lack was real. The glory was His.
- They have no wine is how need sounds when it is brought to Him.
- My hour has not yet come, and still He gives a sign that points at the hour.
- Do whatever He tells you is still the whole discipleship of servants.
- Purification stone becoming feast wine preaches more than hospitality.
- The master praises the wrong groom. That is how hidden glory often works.
- Good wine last is kingdom timing against the world’s first pour.
- The sign’s aim is written: He manifested His glory, and they believed.
- The Lack – Wine gone; a wedding at the edge of shame.
- The Mother – They have no wine; Do whatever He tells you.
- The Hour – Named, not yet arrived; a sign given anyway.
- The Jars – Six stone vessels of purification.
- The Command – Fill; draw; take.
- The Good Wine – Kept until now.
- The Sign – Glory seen; disciples believe.

But you have kept the good wine until now.” This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

- Mark 2:19-22 – Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? New wine is put into fresh wineskins.
They have no wine. Do whatever He tells you.
Fill the jars with water. The master tasted the water now become wine. You have kept the good wine until now.
This, the first of His signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested His glory. And His disciples believed in Him.
My hour has not yet come—and the better cup is already hinted.
On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make a feast of well-aged wine. The marriage of the Lamb has come.
Do not turn Cana into a slogan for the jar. Bring the lack. Do what He says. The Bridegroom keeps the good until now. The hour will come. Believe. The glory has begun.
