The Supremacy of Christ is
the absolute and unrivaled lordship of the Son of God
over every realm of existence
—
creation,
history,
the church,
the powers of darkness,
and the age to come.
He is before all things,
above all things,
and the One for whom all things exist.
No power, no person, no philosophy,
and no authority can stand beside Him or above Him.
The supremacy of Christ is
the central confession of the church
and the final reality of the universe.
Scripture presents Jesus Christ as the One in whom the fullness of deity dwells bodily and who stands supreme over every created thing. By Him all things were created, through Him all things hold together, and for Him all things exist. He is the head of the body, the church, the firstborn from the dead, and the One in whom God is reconciling all things to Himself. God has highly exalted Him and given Him the name that is above every name, so that every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. This supremacy is not a future hope only; it is already true in the heavenly places and is being worked out until the last enemy is destroyed. The church lives under that supremacy, proclaims it to the nations, and finds its completeness in the One who is head over all rule and authority. Nothing may be added to Christ; nothing may take His place.

- Over Death – He is the firstborn from the dead and holds the keys of Death and Hades.
- Over History – All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him; He must reign until every enemy is subdued.
- In Redemption – All fullness dwells in Him, and through Him God is reconciling all things to Himself.
- In Final Glory – Every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
- Colossians 1:15-20 – “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things… making peace by the blood of his cross.”

The supremacy of Christ is the non-negotiable center of the Christian faith. He is not one option among many, not a great teacher among equals, not a spiritual force to be balanced with others. He is before all things, above all things, and the One for whom all things exist. All fullness dwells in Him. All authority is His. All knees will bow to Him. The church has no other Head, no other source of life, and no other message. Therefore refuse every rival. Hold fast to the One who is head of all rule and authority. Live under His supremacy, proclaim His supremacy, and rest in the certainty that the God who highly exalted Him will see to it that every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
