Heavenly Realms is the phrase many English Bibles use for what Paul calls the heavenly places.
In Ephesians every spiritual blessing is there in Christ.
Christ is seated there, far above all rule and authority.
The church is seated there with Him
—
and still wrestles there against spiritual forces of evil.
The same realm is blessing, throne, and battlefield.
Four times in one letter Paul locates the Christian life en tois epouraniois: in the heavenlies. God has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. He seated Christ at His right hand there, far above every name that is named. He raised us up with Him and seated us with Him there. Through the church the manifold wisdom of God is made known to the rulers and authorities there. Then the same sky is named as the field of the fight: cosmic powers over this present darkness, spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. The heavenly realms are not a fog of feelings. They are the unseen order where Christ already reigns, where the saints already sit by union with Him, and where rebel powers still operate until they are destroyed. First heaven language of birds and clouds is not the point. Third heaven as Paradise is not denied. Paul is teaching location in Christ. You walk on earth. Your blessing, your seat, and your war are mapped above. Do not hunt a ladder. Put on the armor. The One who is far above every name has already taken you with Him.
- Heavenly realms in Ephesians are “in Christ” before they are a travel brochure.
- Blessing there is present tense. Seated there is present tense.
- Wrestling there is also present tense. Seat and struggle are not a contradiction.
- The powers are in that realm. They are not above the Son.
- The church is a message to the rulers there, not a victim only.
- Maps of first, second, and third heaven can help or distract. Paul’s point is union and war.
- Every spiritual blessing is not stored for later. It is located in Him now.

He has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
He seated Him there, far above every name. He seated us with Him there in Christ Jesus.
Through the church His wisdom is made known to the rulers in the heavenly realms.
We wrestle there. We do not wrestle as orphans. We wrestle as a seated people.
Do not trade the seat for a ladder of speculation.
Set your mind on things above, where Christ is.
The realm is His. The blessing is yours in Him. Stand.
