Lukewarm is Jesus’ word for Laodicea.
I know your works:
you are neither cold nor hot.
Would that you were either cold or hot!
So, because you are lukewarm,
and neither hot nor cold,
I will spit you out of my mouth.
Jesus knows the works of the church in Laodicea. They are neither cold nor hot. He would rather they were one or the other. Because they are lukewarm, He will spit them out of His mouth. The next line explains the temperature. They say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing. They do not know they are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. Lukewarm is not a mild faith He can use. It is a self-sufficient church He will not keep in His mouth.
Do not hear lukewarm as a small lack of enthusiasm. He will spit it out. The wealth they boast is the temperature. Buy from Him. Repent.
You are neither cold nor hot.
Because you are lukewarm,
I will spit you out of my mouth.
Be zealous and repent.
I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot.
Would that you were either cold or hot!
So, because you are lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth.
You say, I am rich, and I need nothing.
Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
Lukewarm is not a mild faith. It is a church that needs nothing, and He will spit it out. Be zealous and repent. He is at the door.
