Money is a tool that becomes a master if the heart is not guarded.
You cannot serve God and money.
The love of money is a root of all kinds of evils.
Life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.
The Lord gives power to get wealth,
and He also says,
Take care,
and be on your guard against all covetousness.
Money itself is not the serpent.
Trusting it is.
Scripture never pretends silver is imaginary. Abraham was rich. Job was restored with flocks. The Law required honest weights and care for the poor. Jesus watched a widow drop two small coins and said she had put in more than the rest. He told of a steward, of minas and talents, of barns torn down for bigger ones, of a rich man who stepped over Lazarus. He paid the temple tax from a fish’s mouth. Judas kept the bag and loved what was in it. Paul told workers to earn, givers to give cheerfully, the rich not to be haughty or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches but on God, who richly provides. The issue is lordship.
Mammon is a name for money when it sits in God’s chair. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Seek first the kingdom, and the added things follow. Lay up treasure in heaven. Be rich toward God. A coin can feed a household, fund a gospel, or buy a field of blood. The difference is the master it serves.
