Prophet is one who speaks what God has spoken.
I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers.
And I will put My words in his mouth,
and he shall speak to them all that I command him.
In the past God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,
but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son.
A prophet is not a fortune-booth.
He is a mouth.
The test is whether the word is the Lord’s
—
and whether it leads to the Lord.
Moses stood between the fire and the people and said they need not hear that voice raw again. God promised a prophet like Moses, and He sent many: Samuel who let none of his words fall, Nathan who said You are the man, Elijah who called fire, Isaiah who saw the Lord, Jeremiah who had to eat the words, Ezekiel the watchman, Daniel who was shown kingdoms, the Twelve and the writing prophets who named exile and hope. The prophet says, Thus says the Lord. He may foretell. He must forth-tell. False prophets steal words, dream their own dreams, and lead Israel after other gods. If a sign comes to pass and the speaker says, Let us go after other gods, you shall not listen. To the law and to the testimony. John the Baptist was more than a prophet—the messenger who prepared the way. The crowds called Jesus the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world. He is that Prophet, and more than a prophet: the Son, the Word made flesh. Pentecost poured the Spirit so that sons and daughters would prophesy. The church still tests. One who prophesies speaks to people for upbuilding, encouragement, and consolation. The spirit of the prophets is subject to the prophets. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
- Like Moses means words in the mouth from God, not a private brand.
- Forth-telling is the center. Foretelling is a part, not the whole job.
- Signs are not enough. The god the speaker serves is the test.
- The Son is the last Word. Prophets pointed; He is the One they meant.
- All flesh may prophesy. Not all speech is prophecy. Test the spirits.
- Watchman blood is on the silent prophet. Speak whether they hear or not.
- Upbuilding is the New Testament aim, not a stage name.
- Mouth of the Lord – Words put in; all that He commands.
- Like Moses – Raised from among the brothers; the people must listen.
- True and False – Law and testimony; other gods unmask the liar.
- Watchman – Warning given; blood if withheld.
- The Prophet – Jesus, promised and recognized, greater than Jonah.
- The Spirit Poured – Sons, daughters, servants speaking.
- Tested Speech – Building the body; subject to the prophets; Jesus at the center.
- Deuteronomy 18:15-19 – “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen… I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him.”
- Deuteronomy 13:1-3 – If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign comes to pass, and if he says, “Let us go after other gods,” you shall not listen.
- Deuteronomy 18:20-22 – The prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name that I have not commanded… that prophet shall die. When a word does not come to pass, that is a word the Lord has not spoken.
- Amos 3:7-8 – The Lord God does nothing without revealing His secret to His servants the prophets. The Lord God has spoken; who can but prophesy?
- Jeremiah 1:9-10 – “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.”
- Ezekiel 3:17-19 – Son of man, I have made you a watchman… If you do not warn, his blood I will require at your hand.
- Isaiah 8:20 – To the law and to the testimony! If they will not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn.
- Hebrews 1:1-2 – Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.
- Acts 3:22-23 – Moses said, The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you.
- John 6:14 – “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!”
- Luke 24:19, 27 – Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word… beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
- Matthew 11:9-10 – What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send My messenger before Your face.
- Joel 2:28-29 – I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.
- 1 Corinthians 14:3, 29, 32 – The one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation… Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. The spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.
- 1 John 4:1 – Test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
- Revelation 19:10 – The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
- 2 Peter 1:20-21 – No prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. Men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
I will raise up a prophet like you from among their brothers. I will put My words in his mouth. To him you shall listen.
In these last days He has spoken to us by His Son.
This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world.
If they say, Let us go after other gods, you shall not listen—even if the sign comes true.
To the law and to the testimony. Test the spirits.
The one who prophesies speaks for upbuilding, encouragement, and consolation. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Do not chase voices that will not sit under the Book. Do not silence the mouth God has filled. Listen to the Son. Weigh what is said. Speak if He sends. Keep the watch.
