Flood is the judgment by water that ended the first world and the mercy that floated a remnant in an ark.
The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth,
and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
I have determined to make an end of all flesh.
But I will establish My covenant with you,
and you shall come into the ark.
The waters prevailed.
Then God remembered Noah.
The bow in the cloud is the sign that the earth will not again be cut off by a flood of water.
The next clearing of the world is by fire.
Days of Noah are the Lord’s own comparison for the coming of the Son of Man. They were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away. Peter says the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished, and the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire. He also says baptism corresponds to this: not the removal of dirt from the body, but an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Eight persons were brought safely through water. The ark is wood that saves because God shut them in. The flood is not a children’s boat story. It is holiness answering a filled-up earth, and covenant answering the family that believed the warning. Violence had filled the earth. The fountains of the great deep burst. The windows of the heavens were opened. Then a wind. Then a bow. Seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not cease. Judgment was real. So was the promise that water would not be the last word.
- Every intention only evil continually is why the flood came—not a weather accident.
- Noah found favor. The ark was commanded, built, entered, and shut by God.
- Unaware is the danger Jesus named. Ordinary life right up to the rain.
- Eight souls through water is remnant mercy, not a crowded boat.
- The bow binds God to a promise about water. It does not cancel the later fire.
- Baptism answers the flood as appeal and new life, not as a second drowning of the planet.
- As it was in the days of Noah—so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
- Filled Earth – Wickedness, violence, thoughts only evil continually.
- The Ark – Pitch within and without; rooms; a remnant shut in.
- The Waters – Deep and windows; forty days; prevailing over the mountains.
- God Remembered – Wind, recession, dry ground, altar.
- The Bow – Covenant with earth; no second water-end of all flesh.
- The Days of Noah – Jesus’ pattern for the unaware world.
- Through Water – Eight persons saved; baptism as the corresponding appeal.

- Genesis 7:11-12, 16, 23 – The fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened. Rain fell forty days and forty nights. The Lord shut him in. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark.
