Son of the Most High is the name Gabriel spoke over Mary’s child
—
and the name the tombs already knew.
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.
And the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
What have You to do with me,
Jesus, Son of the Most High God?
I adjure You by God,
do not torment me.
Heaven announced it in a village.
Hell confessed it in a graveyard.
The title is not flattery.
It is who He is.
Most High is El Elyon—God above every god, the name Melchizedek used when he blessed Abram, the name the king of Babylon learned when he was driven to eat grass until he knew that the Most High rules the kingdom of men. Israel sang it in the psalms: the Lord Most High is to be feared. Gabriel takes that Name and sets a Son under it. The throne of David rides in the same sentence. Virgin womb and forever government meet. Demons do not study Christmas plays. They recognize the One who can send them to the abyss. Son of the Most High God is accurate speech from an unclean throat. The temptation narrative aims at Son of God with stones and temples. The Gerasene uses the fuller court title. The church confesses both: descended from David according to the flesh, declared Son of God in power by the resurrection. Most High does not mean distant. It means no rival sits above Him—not Legion, not Caesar, not the grave. The Child called by that name will hang under a different sign, King of the Jews, and the curtain will tear. The Most High has a Son. The tombs were not confused.
- Gabriel and Legion agree on the title. They do not agree on the welcome.
- Throne of David keeps Son of the Most High from floating off into mist.
- El Elyon already ruled kings. The Son inherits that rule in flesh.
- Do not torment me is not theology class. It is a creature who knows the Judge.
- Son of God in the wilderness testing and Son of the Most High in the tombs are one Person.
- Most High is comfort for Abram’s children and terror for the proud.
- Confession from demons is knowledge without love. Say the Name and follow.

- Matthew 4:3, 6 – “If you are the Son of God, command these stones…”
- John 20:31 – These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
What have You to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?
Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth.
The Most High rules the kingdom of men. Declared to be the Son of God in power by His resurrection.
The child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.
Do not leave the title in a Christmas reading. The tombs already used it. The Most High has a Son. He sits on David’s throne. Legion cannot outrank Him. Believe. The Name is not a charm. It is the King.
