The Ministry of Jesus is the period of His public work on earth, beginning after His baptism and continuing until His death, resurrection, and ascension.
It lasted approximately three years and was marked by teaching, preaching, healing, casting out demons, and training disciples.
Jesus proclaimed the kingdom of God, revealed the Father, and demonstrated authority over every realm of human need and spiritual darkness.
His ministry fulfilled Old Testament prophecy and prepared the way for the cross, the resurrection, and the sending of the Spirit.
The ministry of Jesus is the central chapter of the gospel story. In these years the eternal Son of God, now incarnate, walked among people, spoke the words of life, and performed the works that authenticated His identity as Messiah and Lord. - Acts 10:38 – “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.”
- Matthew 11:4-5 – Jesus points to His works as evidence: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news preached to them.
- John 17:4 – “I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.”
The ministry of Jesus is the perfect revelation of the heart and power of God in human history. In a few short years He proclaimed the kingdom, displayed unmatched authority and compassion, trained the men who would turn the world upside down, and then accomplished the work of redemption on the cross. Every word He spoke and every work He performed still calls for a response of repentance, faith, and discipleship. The same Jesus who walked the roads of Galilee and Judea is the risen Lord who continues His ministry through the Spirit and the church until He returns. To study His ministry is to see the glory of the only Son from the Father and to hear the invitation to follow Him.
