The Garden of Eden was
the original home prepared by God
for the first human pair, Adam and Eve.
The name Eden is related to
a Hebrew word meaning “delight” or “pleasure.”
Located in the east,
it was a place of beauty, provision,
and unbroken fellowship with God.
After the Fall,
Adam and Eve were driven out,
and access to the tree of life was barred.
The Garden of Eden stands as the starting point of human history and the setting for both the high purpose of creation and the tragedy of the Fall. It was a real place of perfect provision and intimate relationship with God, yet it also became the scene of temptation, disobedience, and judgment. Throughout Scripture the garden serves as a picture of the life God intended for humanity and as a backdrop for the promise of future restoration. The Bible’s story moves from the lost garden to the promise of a new heaven and new earth where the tree of life appears once more and God’s people dwell with Him forever.

Through Jesus Christ the way is opened once more, and the final chapters of the Bible return to the imagery of the garden — a river of life, the tree of life, and God’s people dwelling with Him forever in unbroken fellowship.
